Architect Terry Lambert embarks on a risky affair with his boss's wife Sylvia Wentworth but one night, standing at the bedroom window, she sees a woman being attacked outside. To reveal her evidence would also reveal the affair so Lambert goes to the police, but his conflicting statements leave him under suspicion for both the attack and a subsequent murder. He can only prove his innocence by tracking down the real perpetrator in Curtis Hanson's Hitchcockian thriller.
