Billy Wilder's cracking cross-dressing comedy improves with age and repeated viewings. Released in 1959, it's a true film classic, the witty script sparkles, the gags are fast and furious, and the performances from Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon (pictured) are top-notch.

In Prohibition-era Chicago, musicians Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) witness the St Valentine's Day massacre of 1929. Terrified of the repercussions from angry mob bosses, the pair dress as women and join an all-girl jazz band, en route to Florida. Naturally, the plan is fraught with problems as both men fall for the "Jell-O on springs" charm of lead singer and ukulele player Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), while an amorous retiree (Joe E. Brown) makes Jerry the object of his affection...

Despite Monroe reportedly being extremely difficult on set, Some Like It Hot has gone down in history as one of the greatest comedies of all time. Essential, must-see viewing.
