This critically acclaimed tragicomedy focuses on the friendship between a high-functioning autistic woman, Linda Freeman (Sigourney Weaver, pictured) and Alex Hughes (Alan Rickman, pictured), an ex-convict who is traumatised after a fatal car accident.

Alex picks up a hitch-hiker called Vivienne while driving to Winnipeg to see an old friend. She is killed when Hughes's car crashes, and he decides to seek out her mother, who lives in a remote Canadian town.

Highly recommended.
