Rick Santoro (Nicholas Cage) expects plenty of action when he joins his old friend Kevin Dunne (Gary Sinise), a straight-laced former Navy officer now working for the US Senate, on bodyguard duty at a boxing match.

There's more action than he bargained for, however, when the the Secretary of Defense whom his friend was protecting is shot. Now 14,000 spectators are locked inside the arena and all become suspects, accomplices and witnesses to a crime that puts Dunne's job on the line.

Rick is now in a race against time to find the killer or killers and immediately sets to work to clear his buddy of blame but, as he works his way towards the centre of a web of intrigue, he begins to suspect the truth is worse than he ever imagined. And as he delves further into the intricate conspiracy, Rick is forced to question his own chequered past.
