Oscar-winning and moving true story of gifted Australian pianist David Helfgott, whose troubled relationship with his father and the burdens of genius precipitated an emotional breakdown.

Raised by a strict father, the prodigy's ability is quickly spotted and, despite his father's misgivings, he travels to London to study music. With success beckoning, however, his life is thrown into turmoil by a setback which threatens his future career and mental stability.

Released in 1996, Geoffrey Rush (pictured) won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of David as an adult.
