Brad Pitt stars in this lavish spectacle based on the true story of an Austrian mountain-climber who travels to the hauntingly beautiful and utterly alien civilisation of 1940s Tibet. He meets the previously isolated and voraciously curious Dalai Lama, a 14-year-old ruler considered a god in his own land, and the film documents the evolution of the relationship between the boy and the European as well as the changes which occur to the Tibetan people as a result of this incursion from the outside world
