Production Year: 1998

Rating: 15 Certificate

Filmed in Colour

The critics were falling over themselves to praise this quirky and witty 1998 black comedy drama, directed by Wes Anderson and featuring a stunning performance from newcomer Jason Schwartzman as Max Fischer (pictured, left).

Max is his school's brainiest kid, but he's also the most difficult. When he falls for teacher Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams, pictured, right), it spells trouble. Bill Murray (pictured, centre) co-stars as Herman Blume, a parent who initially provides solace and then competition for our lovelorn hero. Schwartzman is terrific, but it is Murray who walks off with the movie, along with a plate of carrots.

Highly recommended.
