A big, heavy-smoking construction worker is in for some trouble when his suburban wife discovers he is having an affair with a sexy but foul-mouthed English shop assistant. Meanwhile, his youngest daughter has fallen in love with the eccentric wannabe music star next door and wants to get married. But what is the difference between real, everlasting love and a brief bout of passion?
