Amanda Root is the heroine of Roger Michell's adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. Unmarried at 27, she is considered an old maid until her former beau Ciaran Hinds returns after eight years in the Navy, fighting Napoleon. Despite the interference of family and friends, they eventually renew their courtship, but do they still feel the same after so many years?
