Engrossing period drama set in 19th Century Sweden. An impoverished Swedish widower (Max von Sydow) emigrates to Denmark with his son to find employment. Beautifully photographed, Pelle the Conqueror won the Best Foreign Film Academy Award and the Palm d'Or.
