Patton: Lust for Glory (1970)

Running Time: 180 minutes (approx)

Production Year: 1970

Rating: PG Certificate

Filmed in Colour

This superb and monumental film is the onscreen biography of one of the greatest and most controversial military leaders of World War II, General George S Patton (George C. Scott), famous tank commander.

The film begins with Patton's career in North Africa, from his triumphs over Rommel and progresses through the invasion of Germany and the fall of the Third Reich and up to his final actions in the Battle of the Ardennes. His battlefield genius amassed him fear and respect from the Germans, and resentment and misunderstanding from the Allies.

The film also tells side plots which speak of Patton's numerous faults such his temper and habit towards insubordination. A military historian and poet, he believed he was a warrior in many past lives, and that he was destined for something great during his current life, but his stubbornness and controversial methods nearly prevent the fulfillment of that destiny.

These faults would, eventually, lead to his being relieved as Occupation Commander of Germany and nearly prevent the fulfillment of that destiny.

This film won 8 Oscar and a towering performance from George C. Scott as Patton earned him one, which he refused to accept!

When will this film be available in Blue Ray in the UK? At the moment it seems to be only available in Region A (i.e. US).
