With its haunting, gritty take on violence, loyalty and honour in the Old West, this 1973 Sam Peckinpah western bears comparison with the director's legendary The Wild Bunch.

Aging gunfighter Pat Garrett (James Coburn) is hired as a lawman on behalf of a group of wealthy New Mexico cattle barons. Garrett's sole purpose is to bring down his old friend - and the Wild West's most notorious outlaw - Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson, pictured).

The film includes an appearance by Bob Dylan in his first acting role. Dylan also wrote the film's soundtrack, which features the hit single Knockin' on Heaven's Door.
