Critically acclaimed director David Fincher offers up this tense thriller starring Academy Award winners Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker.

The story centres around a recently divorced mother, Meg Altman (Foster), who moves into a new home in New York with her teenage daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart). The house features a very modern addition - a panic room, a virtually impenetrable sanctuary in case of a home invasion.

On their first night in their new home, the house is broken into by three burglars (Whitaker, Jared Leto and Dwight Yoakam) who come looking for a hidden cache of bonds worth several million dollars.

Meg and her diabetic daughter seek refuge in the panic room, but that is where the criminals suspect the stash is. The three invaders try to find a way into the vault by any means necessary. Soon, the safest room in the house threatens to become a tomb for Meg's daughter when Sarah starts suffering from low blood sugar. The situation gets out of hand when Meg's ex-husband enters the scene and is taken hostage by the intruders.

David Fincher's film is characterised by a sleek, almost cold cinematography and a constant sense of fear and violence that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Panic Room is a Film programme that first aired in 2002 and has been rated 15.
