Brigitte Mira plays the eponymous mother, the widow of a factory worker who has killed the boss' son and then himself. A media celebrity then a political toy, she eventually reclaims her own life in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's dramatic satire whose truths were so close to home, it was banned from the Berlin Film Festival.
