"If they didn't do time with us, they can't do crime with us." Undercover cops Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Rico Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) have all the best lines in this fast-paced, crime thriller, released last year. And they can walk the walk too, whether they're taking down white supremacist gangs from the inside, romancing gorgeous baddie Isabella (Li Gong) or persuading a crew of Havana speedboat smugglers of their credentials: "We're fast as FedEx," cracks Crockett.

The sleeves are down, the gloves are off. For anyone expecting pastel suits and that theme song, expect again. Director Michael Mann was one of the producers of the 1980s TV show: this is his chance to remake the hit series as he originally wanted it, fast, bad and tough. Confident film-making: it's like Bruckheimer with A-levels.
