Police thriller about a big-city cop who sets out to avenge the death of his partner, thought to have been shot dead by a drug dealer. McQ tracks the villain down, but he turns out to have friends in high places, leading to McQ being struck off the case. Knowing he has been sacrificed to placate political bosses, McQ resigns from the force. But he immediately contacts a private eye friend, and together they continue the investigation.
