Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)
Written by Etan Cohen, Eric DarnellDirected by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrathAlso known as "Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa"Running Time: 90 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2008Rating: PG CertificateProduction Country: USAFilmed in ColourAboard a makeshift flying machine manned by penguins, the zoo-reared quartet are looking forward to the creature comforts awaiting them back in the Big Apple. However, the flight is far from smooth and there's an unexpected change to the destination plan. Finding themselves in a fish-out-of-water situation all over again, our pampered protagonists crash in the middle of a savannah on the mother continent. Things start to look up when twinkled-toed Alex (Stiller) is reunited with his long-lost pop Zuba (the late Bernie Mac). Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa deserves a round of a-paws. Bucking the cinematic trend, this fun-fuelled sequel trumps its predecessor in every department. Aside from a slip into The Lion King territory with a plotline revolving around a dastardly uncle, this animated creature feature is far funnier, buoyed by a higher quota of belly laughs. The vocal chops of the star-studded cast are on top form too, with the irreverent Baron Cohen stealing the spotlight as delusional lemur, King Julien. A raucous ride from start to finish, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa can be enjoyed by all the family. Cast
