Jean Marc-Barr's film adheres to the Dogme Charter, and was the first such film shot in France. Elodie Bouchez and Sergei Trifunovic are a young couple who meet and fall in love, with the film recording their growing affection. But Trifunovic, a Yugoslavian painter, is residing illegally in France and the couple must either part or go into hiding. Taking the second choice, their predicament strengthens their love, but this harmony is interrupted by the arrival of the authorities
