Notre histoire commence avec la mort de la grand-mère, Rosa Rashevski. Elle détestait la religion et les rabbins, et pourtant, elle avait réservé un emplacement dans le carré juif du cimetière. Les Rashevski sont complètement perdus. Rosa leur manque déjà, et l'enterrement n'est que le début de leur nouvelle vie sans elle. En effet, les Rashevski commencent à se poser des questions sur leur identité et partent chacun dans des aventures très personnelles, comme si leurs existences n'étaient pas déjà assez compliquées. Heureusement, il y a le Tango !
