This is a lavish biopic of the 14th Dalai Lama.

The film charts his life from his discovery as a two-year-old boy to his exile following the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950.

The film contrasts the serene spiritual world of Tibet with the extreme violence of the Chinese assault on Tibetan life - a tribute to the lost values of an outlawed culture
