Two brothers, Mansoor and Sarnad are musicians in Lahore but their lives take different turns once Sarnad, influenced by a radical cleric, abandons music for Islam while Mansoor heads to Chicago to study where he falls in love with Janie. Mansoor's idyllic life soon falls apart when he is taken in for questioning by the FBI on the flimsiest of grounds and is tortured as a suspected terrorist just because he is a Muslim. Meanwhile, Mariam, a British-Pakistani, is tricked into going to Afghanistan by her father and forced to marry against her will. After one failed escape attempt, she eventually manages to make contact with the outside world and is rescued.
