Eight years after Dr Alan Grant's (Sam Neill) first visit to dinosaur island, he is roped into more prehistoric pandemonium for this third, nail-biting instalment in the Jurassic Park trilogy. The action remains on Isla Sorna - the setting for second outing, The Lost World - which has now become a feral, untamed breeding ground for lizard-loving entrepreneur John Hammond's terrifying creations.

With a new theory on velociraptor intelligence in development, Grant is approached by Paul and Amanda Kirby (William H. Macy and Téa Leoni); a wealthy couple who offer to fund the struggling scientist's study, in return for one air tour of the mysterious island. Eager for the cash, he reluctantly agrees to revisit the nightmare he was determined to leave behind.

Disaster hits when the group's plane crashes, and Paul and Amanda reveal their true motives for the trip. Stranded on the perilous island, the Kirbys, Grant and his protégé Billy (Alessandro Nivola), face a dangerous struggle for survival. Frightening new creatures emerge from the shadows and Dr Grant witnesses his theories in action when the 'raptors return faster, smarter and more deadly than ever before.

For this third Jurassic Park offering, executive producer Steven Spielberg hands the directing reigns over to special effects maestro Joe Johnston (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji). The impressive cast features newcomers to the series Macy and Leoni, as old hand Neill is reunited with Laura Dern, who reprises her role as Dr Ellie Sattler in a welcome cameo. Johnston's adventure can't match the wow factor of the original, but the introduction of the gigantic spinosaurus and the sinister airborne pteranodons reignites some of the old magic.
