Ancient Rome is the setting for this tale of murder and intrigue immortalised by William Shakespeare. Fearing his ambition will lead to tyranny, Brutus, Cassius, and other high-ranking Romans murder Caesar. The people of Rome side with them until Antony, Caesar's trusted friend, rouses them and the conspirators are driven from Rome. Two armies square up to each other, one side following the conspirators and the other, Antony.

Handsome and virile, Marlon Brando was America's most exciting young actor when he played Marc Antony in this impressive adaptation of the Bard's classic stage play which some consider to be one of the best Hollywood treatments of a work by Shakespeare. Paul Scofield was originally lined up for the part of Antony, but it went to Brando after a storming screen test.
