Can a cool young surfer from Hawaii turn his talents to snowboarding when he's transplanted from Hawaii to mountainous Vermont? All the pupils at Johnny's snobby new private school ski, but he finds he's a natural at snowboarding - something only the local state school do. His snobby fellow students make his life a misery, until in the end he challenges their champion to a race. The winner will have "control of the mountain". Can Johnny win, with the help of his grandfather, legendary surfing champ Johnny Tsunami?
