Directed by Todd Field

Running Time: 150 minutes (approx)

Production Year: 2001

Rating: 15 Certificate

Filmed in Colour

This powerful drama earned five Oscar nominations - not surprising, considering the film's gripping and emotional plot and the powerhouse performances from Sissy Spacek (pictured) and Tom Wilkinson (pictured). They play the middle-class parents who become engulfed in grief and are pushed to breaking point following the murder of their high-school graduate son (Nick Stahl), who has embarked on a love affair with an attractive older woman (Marisa Tomei) and is shot dead by her estranged husband (William Mapother).

Released in 2001, it's the feature debut from actor/director Todd Field. Superbly acted, beautifully paced and with tremendous detail, it's a slow build, but brilliantly done. Highly recommended.
