    What an obnoxious little twat.

"Its not my fault, the banks should have stopped me"

    Deserves all he gets.

Oh my god, this programme was awful. Why would anyone want to make an hour long film glorifying a cocky, obnoxious drop-out who can't and won't take responsibility for his actions. At 26 he has finally decided to grow up and declare himself bankrupt. Well done. Oh, he wants to be an actor too so we get little poetic pieces to camera. Why can't these people find interesting, positive stories? This programme made me want to put my fist throught the tv....

Agreed with the two above comments. I mean, are we not forgetting the fact that when you supply the details to the banks, you're actually breaking the contracts you're signing before you've even been offered the overdraft?? I love the comment "we all fuck up" by his lecturer - what a blind old fool! I got myself a BEng in a real degree; not some noddy fucking acting degree but to then be gratified in pursuing his career in acting by us, the TV license payer, paying for a programme about a jumped up little prick who can get into debt. Mate, I'm 3 years younger than you, got a house, a nice car, a good job, a fiancee, and a marriage which preceeds my 2 week long honeymoon in Cancun. You don't get that by being a twat and lying. The BBC have pulled another programme out of their arse which is unbalanced and doesn't emphasise the real point here - THESE PEOPLE LIED TO GET THE MONEY. Why is the emphasis not on the students who are wankers and their parents? Uni students my arse; these people are kids who are just playing stupid games. I hope he never gets anything; he deserves nothing.

Why are you blaming him? Yes, he is at some fault but so are the banks. Why did they let him take £40,000? Natwest had 8 months to stop him and sent him some letters. The banks are more to blame and the UK Tax payer has to bail them out when they act like this?

Why are the banks more to blame Zee Jay? Because people like him lie on their application forms to check his eligibility for an account? It's people like you condoning this little twat that make the banks look unnecessarily bad without actually concentrating on the important facts; he lied and he's a loser. If he can't take responsibility for his actions, then that's his problem but getting any sort of support from people like yourself you have no real morals or concept of what the situation is really about is just what this little dropout is looking for. Well done for gratifying him - you small minded individual; one might infer people like you need even more help than him. In fact, you're probably one of these human rights supporters who stop criminals having to get punished because you think the world is so rosy. Just in case you haven't worked it out by now, it's not. Some people like this bloke will take the piss and I think you need to look more rationally and subjectively at the situation rather than being a media sponge and accepting that actually BECAUSE of people like this guy, the banks are in such a poor state. And what's the alternative to us bailing them out? People with savings and investments losing their hard earned cash so that tossers like this dude can get away scot free with £40,000 of their money essentially? Not going to happen. The banks are at fault but not for reasons like this; do more research before making comments about things you clearly don't understand.

on dec 8th "Barry" made some very low comments regarding this documentary which I personaly think took a lot of courage to face up to and admit wrong doing encouraging and warning others not to go down the same path as the party does not last and you end up with nothing lee barnes was not boasting about what he had done he was making others aware of the outcome. so barry who must have the smallest penis known to man as you have to brag about other things yhat you have in your life to cover this fact if you had emailed lee to find out what he had actually achieved since his time at preston university you would of found out that he did go on to gain a BA Hounours plus an NVQ and HND in performing arts as well as travelling the country with his plays to different universities he also runs a workshop he may not have his own house, car, and a 2week honeymoon to a place were not many people under the age of 50 go but at least he can begin to hold his head up and also he had balls to bring all this out in the open and more than anything he probably has a decent size dick something you will never be able to brag about

Ive only been alive for 25 years and all this is new to me, like many others. The banks need no help to look bad... tax payers? Ive payed taxes to let people fuck around on the doll for years...illegal immigrants... who really cares?... oh sorry Barry... you do!... you seem more interested in your own degree????? than anything else... do me a favor and take your self righteous bullshit to someone who cares because believe it or not, no matter how many intelligent words you fabricate from the dictionary you're always going to sound bitter and jealous. Have a wank over your BEng and always remain inferior to the (Drop out) that looked better than you on tv. Maybe one day Barry...ha.x

i have looked at the comments made on this page regarding lee barnes and having watched the programme myself feel to favour the comments made by "sue" and "indeed" some people live the safe boring life "barry" other people grab it by the balls and make mistakes like lee did. And he has tried to warn other students to take care and not make the same mistakes i e-mailed lee and talked to him at some length and found him more intelligent and serious than he appeared on the programme he told me he wrote a play and had it selected for the n.s.d.f one of ten selected from 250 plays that entered the competition oxford had one entry cambridge had two neither were chosen he also had a play on at the fringe festival so i say stop knocking him until you get all your facts straight (watch out barry sounds like this lad might get a bigger house than you in the future as well as a bigger penis)

This was an appalling piece of television programming. I am upset that the the BBC commissioned such a piece.

It was entirely unbalanced. The prevailing message was that banks have a duty to their customers to prevent their financial imprudence. What a lot of toss - we might as well just flush personal responsibility down the pan.

A thief might walk steel a car that has its door left open. Is it the car owner's fault that his car was stolen? No, there were of course steps that could have been taken to avoid the loss - by, for example, parking the car ain a locked garage, locking the doors or fitting an alarm. That is why we don't feel as much sympathy for the victim as we might otherwise; it was , toa degree, preventable. In the present case, that is why we don't have a great deal of sympathy for the bank - there was perhaps more they could have done to prevent it (though I question whether there in fact was - keep in mind this was a deliberate act by a person who was evading detection).

But to suggest that the bank was responsible for the bloke's situation - i.e. being £40,000 in debt is incredible. It is akin to suggesting that the victim of thief's crime is responsible for the thief going to jail. But the victim is not responsible; the thief made conscious - albeit, bad - decision to steal the car. Don't shed a tear for him and don't blame the victim.

Keep in mind also that, for every irresponsible lending decision by a bank to an individual, there is an equally irresponsible decision by an individual to take credit that they are aware - or should be aware - that they are unable to repay. They deserve approbrium too.

This programme failed to deliver any kind of balance. To a degree, it justified irresponsible borrowing (why not if it's not your fault but the banks!).

I will be writing to the BBC.

As a personal friend of mine, I can say that Lee is not obnoxious or cocky or anything else anyone has slated him to me. I think we are missing the point that the banks fucked up clear and simple and they should have never allowed him to take the money in the first place. If you found out you could take the money you all would do the same. From personal experiences I went down the same road five years ago and found a loop-hole in the system. Because I found out I could draw out money even though I didn't have it in the bank it became an addiction.

I'm surprised at most of you; I'm quite sure you have all been in a situation in your life when you have desparately needed cash and/or been in debt.
