Highlander (1986)
Written by Gregory WidenDirected by Russell MulcahyRunning Time: 116 minutes (approx)Production Year: 1986Rating: 15 CertificateFilmed in ColourAlthough this film wasn't that well received by the critics, it's actually one of the all-time greats. Creating a strong cult following, it spawned numerous sequels, as well as a TV series. Set initially in the 16th century, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert, pictured, right) is a young Scottish warrior. A poor fighter, he's fatally wounded in a clan battle. Surprisingly he does not die, but miraculously recovers. His clan cast him out, believing that he is the devil. While living alone in the Highlands, MacLeod meets a mysterious Spaniard - Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery, pictured, left) - who tells him that he is of a race of immortals. They can never age and can never reproduce; the only way they can die is by having their head cut off. Ramirez teaches MacLeod the ancient art of fighting using a sword, and they become close friends. Unfortunately there is one immortal - The Kurgan (Clancy Brown) - who wants to claim "The Prize" and is out to kill everyone... Lambert and Connery are superb, while Brown revels as a villain in a role he was made for. Highly recommended. Reviewer - Dan Petitt Cast
