Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Written by Guillermo Del ToroDirected by Guillermo Del ToroRunning Time: 120 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2008Rating: 12 CertificateProduction Country: USA/GermanyFilmed in ColourWhen Prince Nuada (Luke Goss) threatens to end an ancient truce between mankind and the mythical creatures of the underworld, it's up to paranormal investigator Hellboy (Ron Perlman) to save the day. As the cranky demon tracks Nuada down, his own loyalties are increasingly conflicted as he comes to realise he has more in common with his enemy than the ungrateful humans he is trying to protect. As the love affair between Hellboy and pyrokinetic Liz Sherman (Selma Blair[/person deepens and new team member Johann Krauss ([person]Seth MacFarlane) threatens to steal his thunder, the dogged demon detective must pull out all the stops to save the world and keep his private life from going to hell. Visionary director Guillermo Del Toro returns to his passion project with this far superior sequel to 2004's first instalment. Staged on a much more epic scale and packed with wonderfully imaginative creatures, Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a feast for the eyes and full of the rough-hewn humour and believable, yet other-wordly, characters that made its predecessor such a success. Worth seeing for the verbal sparring between Hellboy and officious German poltergeist Krauss alone, del Toro's film is one of this year's most entertaining blockbusters. When is Hellboy II: The Golden Army next on TV?
