This complex and compelling drama is set in a tough Boston suburb. Private detective Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck, pictured) is hired to trace the missing daughter of Helene McCready (Amy Ryan, pictured). "I find the people who started in the cracks and then fell through," he says.

Police chief Doyle (Morgan Freeman) doesn't think Patrick has a chance: "Half of all the children in these cases are killed," he says. "A four-year-old child is on the street. It's 76 hours and counting."

Patrick recognises the threat from molester Corwin Earle and Haitian gangster Cheese. But in a neighbourhood where he's lived all his life, the real danger may be closer to home...

In an assured directorial debut, Ben Affleck marshals an all-star cast and draws a memorable performance from his younger brother.
