This is the new version of the cult Japanese monster movie.

In the steamy jungle of the South Pacific, an enormous creature is created by nuclear fallout. On a research trip to Chernobyl, a young scientist called Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) discovers a startling link between genetic mutation and radioactivity. Now he has been called away from his research here, where he examined worm growth, to a site in Tahiti, where traces of an oversized lizard have been found.

Elsewhere, a huge fishing trawler is attacked by an unseen creature from beneath the waves. It isn't long before Niko realises that the beast is heading towards New York City with a lot more than sightseeing in mind. It is now made painfully clear that the beast is not only female - but a pregnant female and has decided to make Manhattan her nesting place.

She's the most spectacular creature in cinematic history, with a foot the size of a bus, a body as tall as London's Big Ben and strength and adility the likes of which the world has never seen.

Soon, the city is sealed by the military. With the help of "the worm guy" and other scientists, they try to get rid of the threat. However when Niko suggests to the leaders that their is this strong possibility that Godzilla is not only pregnant, but capable of laying many eggs somewhere in the city, his theory is not accepted.

In addition, he gets fired from the team later on. Being alone with his theory, Philippe Roaché (Jean Reno), a French "insurance representative", addresses him in order to help him to prove his theory.

The creators of Independence Day are proud to present the ultimate in monster movies
