As she has aged her driving ability has aged with her and her son, Boolie (Dan Aykroyd) feels that she should hire a driver, to which she objects. However after one too many close shaves, Boolie insists he hire a chauffeur for her against her wishes, being set in the 1950's this driver inevitably turns out to be black and is named Hoke Colburn (Morgan Freeman). This action results in Miss Daisy refusing to allow Hoke to drive her anywhere at all and so she walks, with Hoke driving behind her. However this relationship soon develops into a close and loyal friendship that ends up continuing for over a quarter of a century due to Hoke's ability to win her over with his native good graces and transcends their very different lives.
