Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
Production Year: 1971Rating: PG CertificateProduction Country: UK/USAFilmed in ColourSadly not the best of the Sean Connery Bonds, this is a decidedly weak effort after Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. The ho-hum plot - about diamond-smugglers who are plotting to target Washington with a laser in space - trickles along and has a nasty, campy, slightly humourous edge to it. To infiltrate the ring, Bond impersonates a diamond smuggler and does his thing (without great aplomb) in Amsterdam, an LA crematorium and Las Vegas gambling parlours. Along the way he gets very acquainted with "double agent" Tiffany Case (Jill St. John, pictured, with Connery). Still worth watching - the fight sequence with Bambi and Thumper is especially hilarious and the theme tune, sung by Shirley Bassey is terrific - but there are much better Bonds.
