Stunningly stylish and yet gorgeously gruesome, Tim Burton's latest foray into animated feature films again takes a familiar scenario and gives it a very different twist. When a young man who's soon to be married fluffs his lines during a wedding rehearsal, he's sent away to practise. As he wanders through the woods he repeats his vows over and over again, until he gets them right. For the sake of authenticity he places a ring on what he thinks is a twig when he completes his pledge - only to discover that it's really the finger of a female corpse, who immediately comes to life and insists he's married her. He soon finds himself in a strange and gloomy underworld that's a revelation to him, and to viewers. Tim Burton's genius and some big star voices unite to bring us a captivating film that's worlds away from the usual animated offerings from Hollywood.
