Director Martin Scorsese struck gold again with this absorbing, underrated crime drama, released in 1995.

According to Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro), running the Tangier casino "is like robbing a bank with no cops around". Rothstein is the biggest name in Sin City, at a time when the Mafia had complete control of Las Vegas during the 1970s and 80s. However, Rothstein's easy casino life becomes a lottery with the arrival of violent hardman Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) and duplicitous callgirl Ginger (Sharon Stone).

A superb movie, the real revelation is Sharon Stone, who earnt herself an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for her performance as the drug-addled, unpredictable wife of De Niro. Highly recommended.
