Walter Lang's lively musical, scored by Irving Berlin, stars Ethel Merman as Sally Adams, a wealthy Washington hostess appointed as American ambassador to the European duchy of Lichtenberg. She finds the tiny state's government corrupt but falls in love with the handsome foreign minister, Cosmo Constantine, the only man who seems to be fighting for his country
