Liza Minnelli produced a tour-de-force performance in this vibrant, Oscar-winning musical. Set in the 1930s, Minnelli plays American Sally Bowles, a singer at the Kit-Kat Club in downtown Berlin. Political unrest is rife throughout Germany as the Nazi party starts to take control. But at the club, the champagne and cabaret flows freely, and Sally's life is a sparkling haze of dance, song, affairs and seduction. Characters come and go, but shy bisexual Englishman Brian (Michael York) and the flamboyant Master Of Ceremonies (Joel Grey) have a profound effect on the young dancer.

Cabaret was one of the first stage musicals to be adapted for the silver screen, paving the way for other box-office hits such as The Producers and Chicago. The result is a dynamic, adrenaline-pumping, sexually charged musical drama that swept the board with eight wins at the Oscars, including Best Director for Bob Fosse, Best Actress for Minnelli and Best Supporting Actor for Grey. Minnelli - who designed the cropped hair and big lashes look that came to define the film - commands the screen and gives the performance of a lifetime with timeless songs such as Money Money, Cabaret and Mein Herr.
