Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) is a veteran minor-league baseball player who has been brought up from another team to train and 'mature' a new young pitcher called Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) who suffers from quite severe maturity problems.

A very wealthy and influential fan of the team (also a renowned groupie) called Anni Savoy (Susan Sarandon) has an affair with at least one player per season but can't decide whether to go for the new meat, or the veteran. She soon decides to give them both a go resulting in a very comical love triangle.
