Film inspired by a classic Norman Rockwell painting, about a family in the Southwest in the 1950s. The painting depicts a father and son sitting on the running board of an old truck awaiting the train that will take the boy off to college. The film dramatizes the subsequent events involving the maturing of the son and the truths that the son's parents and teacher must confront.
