Filmed in Colour

Directed by 2001: A Space Odyssey special-effects wizard Douglas Trumbull, this 1983 sci-fi thriller is quite superb. Christopher Walken (pictured) stars as Michael Brace, a scientist who - along with his colleague Lillian Reynolds (a stand-out performance by Louise Fletcher) - invents a helmet device that can interface with the brain, offering virtual reality.

When the military become interested in the project, Reynolds refuses to co-operate, with near-fatal consequences...

Highly recommended.
