A Dutch painter hurries to keep a rendezvous with an elegant and sophisticated French woman, slightly his elder, whose relationship with him had turned from art student into love. He arrives and is confronted by the police who accuse him of having murdered her. But when it transpires that she was being 'kept' by a high-ranking Diplomat then the case becomes a little more complicated.
