An ambitious, yet penniless girl called Blanche Fullerton (Valerie Hobson) becomes the mistress of a stately home through marrying the heir even though she has fallen in love with the illegitimate son of the previous owner.

Panic puts an end to the wedding festivities when gypsies set fire to the barns. The man she loves, driven by jealousy, hopes the gypsies will be blamed when he shoots her husband and father-in-law, but fate takes a hand in the future of the girl and her lover.
