This boozy 2006 comedy film is from the Canadian comedy group Broken Lizard. After transporting their granddad's ashes to Munich, Jan and Todd Wolfhouse stumble on an underground drinking club at the famous Oktoberfest. There they are drunk under the table and ridiculed by their German relatives (the Wolfhausens). They return home to Colorado, burning with shame.

One year later, they return for revenge. This time, it will be different. This time, they've got half a frathouse worth of help: eating machine Landfill, brain box Finkelstein and low-rent gigolo Barry.

After Broken Lizard's breakthrough movie Super Troopers (2001), the team followed up with the less acclaimed Club Dread (2004). Beerfest is viewed as a return to form. Think Fight Club with beer, then add cameos from Jürgen Prochnow, Willie Nelson and Donald Sutherland.

To be fair, not everyone agrees. "There are more laughs in Taxi Driver," sniffed bbc.co.uk. But if you're into beer and puking gags, it's like "being trapped in a fraternity house for whatever came before Neanderthals", according to Aussie film site Urban Cinefile, adding "it is also, surprisingly, rather fantastic."
