As a young boy Brian McCafferty (William Baldwin) watches his fire-fighter father perish while on a ride along with him. Years on Brian decides to join the fire service and becomes a rookie fire fighter. To try and earn the respect of his older brother, Stephen (Kurt Russell) and the other fire fighters, Brian takes a part in an investigation into a string of arson attacks and murders after becoming frightened in a fire situation, and then gets into an investigative office and finds that he is now not only putting out the arsonist's fires, he's trying to track them down.

This film is a detailed look into the duties and lives of firemen with the most amazing pyrotechnics and special effects.
