A wee piglet is abandoned by his mother on a farm and the farm's sheepdog, called Fly, takes him under her wing. Not quite knowing who, or what, he is Babe has many friends in the farmyard such as Ferdinand the duck, who thinks he's a Rooster and of course Farmer Hoggitt.

Farmer Hoggitt soon realizes that his little piglet, that he was fattening up for christmas dinner, is in fact a miraculously clever sheep-pig. The farmer decides to enter him in the national sheep dog trials for which everyone spurns - until, that is they see how clever Babe is.
