This 1998 big-budget, special-effects blockbuster does exactly what is says on the tin. Flashy, OTT and often unintentionally hilarious, there's a certain irony here - especially in the script and performances - as Bruce Willis leads the cast into cosmic battle.

An asteroid the size of Texas is going to hit Earth in 18 days. If it slams into its target as predicted, all life on the planet will be destroyed. NASA formulates a plan that involves landing a team of astronauts on the killer rock, drilling into the core and blowing the asteroid in two with a nuclear bomb. There's just one problem - the only team on Earth that are capable of dealing with such specialised drilling is a gang of roughnecks led by the gruff Harry S Stamper (Bruce Willis)...
