After a year away at college, the gang, including Jim (Jason Biggs), Oz (Chris Klein), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), are back together and ready to get down to some serious partying. Planning the party to end all parties, the lads begin preparations but their perennial problems with the opposite sex soon overshadow the proceedings. With Oz's girlfriend Heather (Mena Suvari) studying in Spain, Kevin having split up with Vicky (Tara Reid) and Jim still knocking around with super-geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), their love lives are far from perfect, but, as the party approaches, the boys must sort out their troubles or risk spoiling the best summer of their lives.

Lacking a cohesive plot and some of the charm that made the original so shamelessly enjoyable this sequel still manages to score simply because there's plenty of great gags and the cast remain so darn likeable. Feeling more like a series of sketches than a narrative-driven movie, American Pie 2 retains the shock value set pieces that made the first film a guilty pleasure. Having previously become intimate with a freshly baked pie, this time around Jim manages to superglue his hand to his nether regions resulting in a squirm-inducing attempt to wriggle out of the situation that's painfully funny to watch. With favourites such as saucy foreign student Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) returning, not to mention the irrepressible Stifler (Seann William Scott) - who endures a man-on-man kiss in his quest to pull two lesbian girls - American Pie 2 is good, no-brainer fun and far more enjoyable than the subsequent entries in the series.
