The fourth film in one of the most successful and enduring of all Hollywood film franchises. Two hundred years after her death in a furnace of molten lead, Lt Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is revived as a potent human/ alien clone in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's ghoulish and gory continuation of the Alien chronicle. The fourth in the series, it was released in 1997, 18 years after the first.

Ripley had committed the ultimate selfless act in Alien 3, killing herself to save humanity after realising she had become impregnated with an alien queen. But, on the military research space station Auriga, megalomaniac doctors Wren (J.E. Freeman) and Gediman (Brad Dourif) have cloned the Lieutenant as part of their project to revitalise the extinct alien species for government use, using a supply of cryogenically frozen hostages from the pirate ship The Betty as incubators of alien eggs.

However, on board The Betty is Annalee Call (Winona Ryder), a humane humanoid determined to wreck the project and kill Ripley before the creatures can break loose. But, and let the squeamish beware, break loose they do and gloopy visceral grotesqueness explodes onto the screen amidst underwater chases and superhuman feats of strength from Ripley. Desperate to escape from the marauding monsters slipping slimily around the ship, the crew flee to all corners of the station with the disgusting aliens in hot and sticky pursuit.

After learning that the scientists wish to introduce the Aliens to earth, however, Ripley and Call unite, setting the Auriga ship on a crash course to destroy the species, but with their own lives on the line...
