Burke and the team investigate the murder of a man who was tortured and executed on a remote area of Glasgow wasteland. When they discover that the victim was a hit-man, their enquiries lead them to a local entrepreneur who may have criminal connections. But Chief Superintendent Laura Henson has marked Burke as a troublemaker, and is hell-bent on making sure his days on the force are numbered. Meanwhile, Burke meets an old flame.
