Fleshmarket Close

Rebus is called in to investigate the murder of a Kosovan man on a notorious Edinburgh sink estate. At first it appears to be a race crime, but Rebus is unconvinced and discovers two other murders are linked to the initial crime. One of the victims is the brother of the lead thug on the estate and the other a Kosovan girl. The heavy-drinking detective finds the motives are of a more personal nature than race.
