Chief Inspector Japp seeks Poirot's help with a series of unsolved jewel thefts, and during the investigation Poirot falls in love and finds a criminal intellect which stretches his own little grey cells to the limit. Poirot spends all of his time with the beautiful and clever Countess Rossakoff, leaving Hastings and Miss Lemon to do all the detective work for once.
